This guide helps you from the moment you receive your SmartBrake system to your first safe bike ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide is for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>cyclists<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>parents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>companions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>caregivers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are going to install the full braking system on the bike, you should use the <a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/getting-started-with-smartbrake-for-technicians\/\"><strong>Technician Guide<\/strong> <\/a>instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Get to know the controller<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SmartBrake can be supplied with one or more controllers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hand Controller<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A wireless remote control that is often used by a companion to brake when needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brake Lever Slim<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A lightweight brake lever that provides full SmartBrake braking power with very little hand force.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thumb Brake<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A wireless brake activated with the thumb. How to turn on SmartBrake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Press the button on the SmartBrake unit once.<br><br>When SmartBrake starts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>red lights turn on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the system performs a safety check<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fail-safe is active at startup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This means the wheels may remain locked until you activate the controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1871-online-video-cutter.com-2.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Release fail-safe before riding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you start riding, you must activate the controller once.<br><br>This releases fail-safe and allows the wheels to roll freely.<br><br>You should not begin riding until you have checked that the wheels rotate normally.<br><br><strong>Important:<\/strong> If fail-safe cannot be released immediately, the SmartBrake brake can be released by turning off the unit. See point 6 below. In that case, you continue riding using only the secondary brake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1865.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Test the brakes before every ride<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before your first ride, and regularly after that, you should perform a simple brake check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quick test<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>walk next to the bike<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>roll it slowly forward<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>activate the controller<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>check that the bike clearly brakes or stops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First ride<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Test the brakes at very low speed in a safe area without traffic or pedestrians.<br>If the brake feels weak, slow, or unusual, stop and contact support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_5118-2-online-video-cutter.com_.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Turn off SmartBrake after the ride<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To turn off SmartBrake, press and hold the button on the unit for about 3 seconds until the light indicates that the system is powering off.<br><br>If SmartBrake remains on for more than 1 hour without the brake being used, the system turns off automatically to save power. When this happens, the parking brake is activated at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/off.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Keep the battery charged<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The SmartBrake unit must be charged regularly.
