Are the wheels locked or free?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the next important distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If the wheels are free<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fail-safe is <strong>not active.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If the wheels are locked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fail-safe is <strong>active<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This determines how you should interpret the remaining signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. If the wheels are free<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the wheels are free, the fail-safe is not active. The problem should then be interpreted as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If a light is flashing but the wheels are free<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This normally indicates <strong>a low battery,<\/strong>not a fail-safe condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover\"><video class=\"wp-block-cover__video-background intrinsic-ignore\" autoplay muted loop playsinline src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/Low-Batt-Unit-2.mov\" data-object-fit=\"cover\"><\/video><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-cover-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Low batt Unit<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that the system is still operational, but <a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/how-to-charge-smartbrake\/\">the unit should be charged<\/a> or the battery should be replaced as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If the controller does not brake, but the wheels are free<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The problem is normally not related to the fail-safe, but rather to a missing connection between the controller and SmartBrake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>that the SmartBrake unit is switched on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>that the controller has been woken up<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>that the controller is within range<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>that the controller battery is not empty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>that the controller is paired correctly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In short:<\/strong><br><strong>Free wheels + flashing signal = often low battery<\/strong><br><strong>Free wheels + no braking = controller is not connected<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. If the fail-safe is active: first check the light on the unit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the wheels are locked, first check the SmartBrake unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flashing red light on the unit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This normally means that the battery in the Brake Unit is low or empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the battery is empty, the fail-safe may have been activated because the unit no longer has sufficient power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover\"><video class=\"wp-block-cover__video-background intrinsic-ignore\" autoplay muted loop playsinline src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fail-Safe-due-to-low-batt-Unit.mov\" data-object-fit=\"cover\"><\/video><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-cover-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Fail-Safe due to empty batt Unit<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What you should do:<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/how-to-charge-smartbrake\/\">Charge the SmartBrake unit as soon as possible.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. If the fail-safe is active and the problem is not caused by the unit battery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the wheels are locked and the problem does not appear to be caused by a low battery in the unit, check the controller connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/how-to-release-smartbrake-fail-safe\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/frigjore-smartbrake-fail-safe\/\">has the controller been woken up?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is the controller within range?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/how-to-charge-smartbrake\/\">does the controller have battery power?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/forklaring-av-smartbrake-lyssignaler\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/forklaring-av-smartbrake-lyssignaler\">is the controller showing a flashing green light, a red light, or no light?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/administrator-og-assistentkontroller-i-smartbrake\/\">is the administrator controller active?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SmartBrake must be connected to an <strong>awake <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/administrator-og-assistentkontroller-i-smartbrake\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/administrator-og-assistentkontroller-i-smartbrake\/\"><strong>administrator controller<\/strong> <\/a>in order to be operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the administrator controller has not been woken up, is outside the operating range, or has no battery power, the system may remain in fail-safe even if another controller is present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. If the controller indicates a loss of connection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the controller shows a signal indicating loss of connection (see section 2), you should first determine whether the controller simply needs to be woken up or whether it is actually disconnected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After start-up or pairing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If SmartBrake has just been switched on or the controller has just been paired, a flashing green light may simply mean that the controller has <strong>not yet been woken up.<\/strong>It does not necessarily mean that the controller has been paired incorrectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If the connection-loss signal continues after waking the controller<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>whether the administrator controller is awake<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the administrator controller is within range<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the controller you are using is an administrator or assistant controller<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the controller battery is low or empty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether the controller needs to be paired again<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/HC-no-connection.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hand Controller without connection to Brake Unit<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/BLS-no-connection-Unit-on.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TB \/ BLS without connection to Brake Unit<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/wp-content\/uploads\/BLS-braking-normal-state.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TB \/ BLS normal light signal when connected to Brake Unit<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. If you cannot resolve the fail-safe on site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the fail-safe is active and you are unable to resolve the problem where you are, you can switch off the SmartBrake unit to <a href=\"https:\/\/smartgroup.no\/en\/how-to-release-smartbrake-fail-safe\/\">release the SmartBrake brake.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SmartBrake brake will then be released, but SmartBrake will no longer provide active braking. You will therefore continue riding using only the bicycle's secondary brake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only continue if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the secondary brake is working correctly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the situation is safe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you can continue riding with extra caution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. If SmartBrake switches off automatically<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If SmartBrake remains switched on for more than 1 hour without the brake being activated, the system will automatically switch off to save power. At the same time, the parking brake will be activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If this happens:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>switch SmartBrake on again<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wake up the administrator controller<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>check that the wheels are released<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">11. Short summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use this simple logic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SmartBrake does not work as expected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check that the Brake Unit is switched on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wake up the controller.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check whether the wheels are locked or free.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the wheels are free: think battery or missing connection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the wheels are locked: first check the light signals on the unit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then check the controller, operating range, battery and administrator role.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12.
