The Starting Point
BanoLife was in dialogue with a user who had a strong desire to ride a bike. They wanted to go on trips, get outside, and take care of their body. The challenge was that the cyclist could not use standard brakes. The entire biking dream hinged on finding a braking solution tailored to the user's needs. Therefore, BanoLife asked SmartBrake to find a solution that would help the user feel safe and independent on the bike.
Here is how a Praschberger Comp CC bike looks with standard brakes.
The Solution
The criterion for the solution was that the user should be independent on a bike. It was therefore necessary to replace both braking systems to ensure safety and meet standard bike requirements. In many cases, we only replace one of the brakes (often the rear brake) if the user can use the standard brake as a secondary brake (has the ability to function with one hand) or because the user receives braking assistance from a companion.
This was not the case this time; both brakes needed to be replaced. The goal was to ride alone along country roads and gravel paths. BanoLife chose handles that met the user's needs and functional level in their hands. In addition to meeting the user's needs, we were able to optimize the bike by removing the brake cables from the hand cycle's handlebars. This contributes to less maintenance and reduces the risk of quickly catching the rotating cables.
