Spike sit-ski: biomechanics and equipment setup

Spike sit-ski setup and an internship project

Spike is designed for double-poling cross-country skiing and off-season training. The equipment has adjustable setup options.

Frederique Faasen undertook an internship at SmartGroup focused on sit-ski biomechanics and the Spike user experience. The project combined a literature review, user feedback and simplified modelling.

Topics explored in the project

The project considered seat height, pole length, trunk movement and support options. These are topics to discuss when selecting and adjusting equipment for an individual user.

Choosing an individual setup

Discuss the intended activity, equipment configuration and support needs with the supplier and a qualified professional who knows the user. Follow the applicable manufacturer instructions when adjusting or using the equipment.
